Introduction
The "Target Variables" tab of the Link Data Wizard allows you to pick closed end variables in your survey that you wish to write your coded data back into.
Modes of Operation
This tab has two modes of operation depending on the platform you're connecting to:
- Existing Variables
In this mode, you can only select target variables that already exist within the survey you're targeting.
Therefore, before linking to your survey, you must ensure it contains the necessary closed-end questions as placeholders to write data back into.
The "Target Variables" tab will therefore list out all closed-end questions within your survey so you can select the relevant items. In this mode, you are not allowed to create new target variables and must only select pre-existing ones.
Applies to: Askia Data Links Only - New Variables
This mode gives you the option to create new target variables which will be used to write data back to your survey.
These variables will be added to your survey automatically by codeit as part of the sync process.
This step is not compulsory. If you don't create target variables, then codeit will automatically generate a set of target variables for you - one for each of the source variables selected.
You can add new target variables by clicking the "Add Target Variables" button:
Applies to: All data links, except Askia
