Generally, data loaded to Codeit is what is known as 'Respondent Level Data', whereby one respondent record is imported or exported as one row in the file (e.g. Excel or csv), with the question responses entered in the columns, as per the example shown below.  



codeit can also handle another format of data called 'Response Level Data', where the answers to each individual question for an ID are shown on separate rows.  Response level data is explained here.


Data files to be imported into codeit also contain other data formats which are listed below with links to their description pages:

  • Multicoded data - where one question collects multiple answers e.g. What brands of soft drinks have you heard of?
  • Nested data - where feedback on a list of attributes is collected, e.g. please tell me if you agree or disagree with each of the following statements, the data is stored in an organised way known as 'nested data'
  • Dichotomous data - a specific technical format of data storage
